Nourishing Kitchari
Kitchari (kitch-a-ree) is considered one of the most nourishing and healing foods in Ayurveda. The humble yet powerful combination of rice and beans are staples globally – they represent survival itself. In kitchari, mung beans and basmati rice are slow cooked with loads of water to create a deeply hydrating, protein rich meal that is a brilliant conduit for the medicine of spices.

Mama’s Mung Bean Soup
The almighty healing food, mung beans are the base of this brothy protein-rich soup. Cultures around the world rely on bowls of smooth, creamy congee to rebalance and heal. Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, this congee uses precious jade pearl rice for its grassy flavor alongside warming fresh ginger. Coastal Gomasio is tucked inside to add rich toasted sesame seeds, mineral-rich wild crafted dulse from the Mendocino coastline, and Sonoma Coast sea salt to your savory congee.

Good for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, this congee can be made savory or sweet. It’s excellent topped with an egg and some greens for a simple anytime dish or you can skip the Coastal Gomasio topping and add ghee and raw honey for a soothing sweet bowl. This Californian version of the Japanese classic combines organic black and white sesame seeds, wildcrafted dulse from the Mendocino coast, and sea salt harvested from the Sonoma coast. It is rich in calcium, copper, magnesium, and other trace minerals.  Swap it for salt in just about anything and apply liberally!  It’s especially delicious on eggs, avocados, warm bowls of rice & popcorn.
